Helping when frustration takes over
Progress over perfection.
Frustration often arrives when a task feels too big or a plan does not work. Your aim is to lower the demand, then find a doable next attempt.
Try it together
- Pause the task and name the difficulty without judging the child.
- Offer a drink, a short movement break or quiet company. Do not insist on breathing exercises if they dislike them.
- Return with a smaller step: one puzzle piece, one sentence or one shoe. Notice the attempt.
Words you could use
“That zip is really tricky. Want a break, a hint, or to do the first bit together?”
One manageable next step
Find one task you can shrink into a smaller first step.
