An after-school landing routine
Progress over perfection.
School can use up a child’s energy for talking, waiting and concentrating. Give them time to land before adding questions or tasks.
Try it together
- Set up a place for the bag and shoes. Put water and a snack within reach.
- Offer a short quiet or movement break before homework. Ask whether company or space would help.
- Use one gentle check-in later, then choose the first small job together.
Words you could use
“You don’t have to tell me everything yet. Snack first, then we can choose what comes next.”
One manageable next step
Prepare a snack and a bag spot before tomorrow’s pickup.
