A bedtime routine with room for connection

Progress over perfection.

The end of the day is often when tired children need the most connection. A predictable sequence can reduce negotiations without ignoring that need.

Try it together

  1. Choose a repeatable order: wash, pyjamas, teeth, story and lights down.
  2. Include five minutes of connection before the final goodnight. Offer a choice of book, not whether bedtime happens.
  3. If the routine slips, return to the next step gently. Keep sleep concerns separate from behaviour and ask your GP about persistent difficulties.

Words you could use

“We have time for one book and a cuddle. Which book feels cosy tonight?”

One manageable next step

Try the same three final steps tonight and note what felt easier.
