Building a morning routine that sticks

Progress over perfection.

A morning works better when the next step is visible, not shouted from another room. Keep the plan short enough to practise together.

Try it together

  1. Pick four essentials: dress, breakfast, teeth and bag. Draw a picture for each and put the chart at child height.
  2. Choose clothes and pack the bag the evening before. Leave ten minutes of buffer rather than adding more instructions.
  3. Walk through the chart on a quiet day. Offer help with the hardest step and review one sticking point after a week.

Words you could use

“First clothes, then breakfast. Would you like to start the socks or shall I?”

One manageable next step

Tonight, draw the four steps with your child.
