Friendship practice without pressure

Progress over perfection.

Joining games and handling disagreements are skills children can practise. Respect their preferences rather than forcing a large friendship group.

Try it together

  1. Ask about one part of playtime, not whether they made lots of friends.
  2. Role-play a short joining phrase and a kind response to “not right now”.
  3. Offer a brief activity with one compatible child. Speak with the school about bullying or ongoing exclusion.

Words you could use

“Could I have a turn after you? If this game is full, I can try another one.”

One manageable next step

Practise one joining phrase during a relaxed game at home.
