Learning a new everyday skill

Progress over perfection.

New skills need repetition without pressure. A child can be capable of one part and still need help with the rest.

Try it together

  1. Break the skill into three or four visible steps. Demonstrate the first one.
  2. Let your child complete the last easy step, then gradually add earlier steps as confidence grows.
  3. Practise at a calm time and stop before frustration becomes overwhelming.

Words you could use

“I’ll hold the bag open; you can put the bottle in. We’re learning together.”

One manageable next step

Practise one part of a skill for two calm minutes today.
