Leaving the playground kindly

Progress over perfection.

Leaving something fun can feel like a loss. Acknowledge that feeling while holding a clear, safe departure plan.

Try it together

  1. Before play, say when you will leave and name a final activity such as one last slide.
  2. Give a warning, then offer a choice of walking or holding hands. Stay close near roads.
  3. If they protest, repeat the plan in few words and help them leave safely without shame.

Words you could use

“You wish we could stay. One last slide, then we walk together to the car.”

One manageable next step

Agree on the last activity before your next playground visit.
