Countdowns and First/Then

Progress over perfection.

Transitions are easier to follow when the current activity has a clear ending and the next step is visible. A timer is a cue, not a threat.

Try it together

  1. Give an early heads-up and one reminder. Let your child finish a defined piece of the activity.
  2. Show two pictures: first the necessary step, then a realistic next activity.
  3. Offer a small choice about how to move, and help if stopping is still hard.

Words you could use

“Two more turns, then shoes. Would you like to carry the timer or your toy?”

One manageable next step
