Homework without the tears

Progress over perfection.

Homework is not worth a nightly battle. Use short supported attempts and communicate with the teacher if work consistently feels unmanageable.

Try it together

  1. Offer water and a settling break first. Clear a small work area with needed materials.
  2. Read the instruction together and choose the easiest first piece. Use a short block with a movement break.
  3. Stop and note what was difficult if distress rises. Ask the teacher about workload and adjustments rather than forcing completion.

Words you could use

“Let’s try the first question together, then stretch and see how you feel.”

One manageable next step

Try one short block and tell the teacher if the task remains too hard.

Educational support only — not medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Adapt to your child’s skills and supervise activities. If difficulties are persistent, intense or unsafe, seek qualified support. In an emergency call your local emergency number (000 in Australia).
